SWOLLFEST AND HOOKS FOR HEARTS #1 YELLOWFIN
First of all I would like to thank Captain LANCE Walker with Fish Commander Guide Service. These guys managed to put us on every species of fish we were after. When we left the dock at 1:00pm on Thursday we had one request. We wanted to win the rodeo. Not only did we catch the swollest fish, we managed to place in almost every offshore category. These guys are great. Don’t take my word for it check out the picture.
We left Thursday around 1pm from Grand Isle heading south. We stopped at a snapper hole and had 9 or so in about 20 min. We picked up and headed further south to make bait. Making bait was easy it was not long before we were heading to the canyon. It took us a few spots before we found the tuna but I was rewarded by a nice Bull Dolphin on a popper for our effort. Once we found the spot let me tell you the bite was non-stop. Every drift produced at least one yellowfin. On one drift Carter Round and I were hooked up on a double. We knew we had two beasts. Mine weighed in at 119lb and carter’s was around 94lb. By morning the fish box was just about full so we headed north to target wahoo and mahi mahi. We trolled around a rig around 60 miles offshore and on the second pass the flat line started screaming. We quickly set the drag as every one started chanting wahoo. I gLANCEd at LANCE and he had a smile from ear to ear about that time a 225lb blue marlin exploded out of the water. He put on an aerial show for us and then the fight was on. He was stubborn and it took about 45min to leader him. After that unexpected treat we pushed further north to try to pick up some bottom dwellers. The first drop John O’Neill picked up a nice 60+ pound grouper. On the second drop I boated a nice Aj. We made a few more drops with no luck so picked up some more live bait for our second try at the snapper hole. On the first drop Travis Bacot boated a nice 32lb snapper. After making our limit we headed to the marina. The final count was 14 yellowfin, 13 snapper, 1 bull dolphin, 1 grouper, 1 amberjack and 6 balckfin. This was truly a charter fishing trip of a lifetime
