charter fishing
Sunday, March 21, 2004. We booked a trip with Lancesince January and were hoping for a good weather day and God was good. The seas were good and so was the fishing.
We set out with an hour delay because of fog. Once we hit the Gulf, It lifted and full throttle we went. Captain LANCE asked if we wanted to go for wahoo or tuna. We chose tuna. As we got to the rip, There were 100+ pound yellowfin busting the water feeding on flying fish. We drifted into them and tried to throw a plug, but the wind, birdnests and finicky tuna produced none. After about 30 minutes of no tuna, Captain set out a drift line while he reset the plug lines. We were ready to head to our original destination and Fish On!!! We pulled in a 35 pounder with a drift line.
We headed to rigs near the lumps. The Lumps have had such traffic, Captain had a alternative for chumming for tuna. He put us on tuna quick. After 30 minutes of chumming, the Blackfin got active. In 3 hours, we landed 17 blackfin, 10-25 pounds. The nicest mess of blackfin I have ever seen.
We were headed in to the dock. We trolled for Wahoo for an hour on the way in but did not get a strike.
Final Tally: 1 Yellowfin and 17 blackfin.
Thanks to Captain LANCE,
